Functional Test

A test to verify that a component or system meets one or more of its design capabilities. (e.g. an Emergency Diesel Generator starts within 10 seconds following a loss of power)

Tests (often qualitative) to determine that an instrument is operational and capable of performing its intended function. Such tests may include, for example, battery check, zero setting, or source response checks.
