Radioactivity


The property or characteristic of radioactive material to undergo spontaneous transformations (disintegrations or decay) with the emission of energy in the form of radiation. It is measured by the rate of spontaneous transformations of a radionuclide. The unit of radioactivity is the curie, Ci (or becquerel, Bq). (1 Ci = 3.7 x 1010 Bq).
