Deactivated High-Level Waste Facility

A high-level waste facility that has been put into a stable condition through the removal of readily retrievable hazardous and radioactive materials to protect the worker, public health and safety, and the environment, thereby limiting the long-term cost of surveillance and maintenance. A facility in a deactivated status has not had all necessary decontamination performed, e.g., removal of contamination remaining in fixed structures and equipment after deactivation.
